aura

Aura the Guillotine, plays a significant role as a major adversary in the manga and anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. She is highlighted as the central antagonist during the Aura the Guillotine Arc. She is a member of the Seven Sages of Destruction, the elite servants of the Demon King, Aura commands considerable power and influence.

Following the demise of the Demon King, she takes action by dispatching her own agents, namely Lügner, Linie, and Draht, to besiege the civilians of Graf Granat’s Domain. Their mission involves encircling the city by neutralizing its protective barrier, thereby posing a significant threat to its inhabitants.

Back Story

Aura once served the Demon King alongside the other Seven Sages of Destruction, wielding her magic to lead her own army and earning the moniker Aura the Guillotine for her ruthless beheadings of resistant victims. After retreating from battle against the victorious Hero Party, she remained hidden for fifty years until the passing of Himmel, a renowned member of the Hero Party.

A decade later, Aura resurfaced, launching an assault on the city of Graf Granat’s Domain in the Northern Lands. Amidst the devastation, Graf Granat mourned the loss of his son in the conflict. Seeking reconciliation, Aura sent three servants—Lügner, Linie, and Draht—to offer peace, but in truth, she aimed to dismantle the town’s protective barrier. Frieren intervened, apprehending Lügner as a threat to his designs for Aura. Eventually, Frieren and her allies, Fern and Stark, defeated Aura’s servants in battle.

Core Abilities

Aura possesses a unique magical ability known as the Spell of Obedience, called Auserlese. This enchantment materializes as a set of Scales, allowing Aura to assess the souls of both herself and her target. If Aura’s mana surpasses that of her opponent, she gains the power to indefinitely manipulate their body through her Scales of Obedience. However, this control can be broken by individuals with exceptional willpower. To circumvent this limitation, Aura opts for a more permanent solution by decapitating those she controls.

Though Aura’s magic is potent, it comes with considerable risk. The process of soul domination carries the danger of the stronger soul permanently overtaking the weaker one. Thus, whenever Aura utilizes her Scales of Obedience, she essentially places her own life in jeopardy.
