Himmel is the one who encouraged Frieren to join the Hero Party to defeat the Demon King. As an elf, Frieren never feels very emotional because of her long lifespan. During the Hero Party’s journey, they spent 10 years. Even though she sees these 10 years as merely 10 months, to Himmel, who is human, this duration is significant. Compared to an elf’s long lifespan, an average human lives 80-90 years.
Those 10 years of journey with Frieren meant a lot to him. After defeating the Demon King, they separated. Decades later, when Himmel died, Frieren felt very emotional and realized she should have known him better.
Himmel And Frieren Relation
During 10 Years of journey Frieren often seemed emotionless and sometimes said insensitive things to the group, including Himmel. However, Himmel understood her well and encouraged her to value relationships more. He taught her to remember past memories, even if the people in them were gone.
During their time together, Frieren adopted many of Himmel’s beliefs about helping and connecting with people. Himmel also made sure Frieren wouldn’t be alone in the future by building statues of the Hero Party and securing rewards for her.
When the Hero Party returned to the Royal Capital, they watched the Era Meteors. Frieren promised to show them a better view in fifty years. She kept her promise, but by then, Himmel was old and passed away shortly after. At his funeral, Frieren showed deep regret for not getting to know him better.
As the story unfolds, it’s revealed that Himmel had romantic feelings for Frieren. He gave her a mirrored-lotus ring as a symbol of eternal love. Though it’s unclear if Frieren felt the same due to her stoic elf nature, Himmel deeply influenced her. She often acts or speaks based on how she remembers Himmel would handle situations. Over time, an Einsam creature starts to resemble Himmel, indicating his importance to Frieren, even more than her master, Flamme.
