Bubble is a 2022 anime movie directed by Tetsurō Araki, known for Attack on Titan, and written by Gen Urobuchi, who worked on Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass. The story is set in a flooded Tokyo, where strange bubbles have caused gravity to act in weird ways. This creates a unique and amazing world to look at. While Bubble looks incredible, the story isn’t as strong as it could be.
I was amazed by how beautiful it was. The animation and action scenes were some of the best I’ve seen in an anime movie. However, the story didn’t grab me as much as I hoped. I was waiting for something more exciting or emotional to happen, but it never really did. I wish the story had more depth and took more time to develop the characters.
Still, I think Bubble is worth watching, especially if you love anime with amazing visuals and great music. Just keep in mind that the story might not be as engaging as the animation.
Story Summary
The movie follows Hibiki, a young boy who loves doing parkour in the ruined city of Tokyo. After bubbles started falling from the sky, Tokyo was flooded and turned into a dangerous playground. Different teams compete in parkour challenges, jumping from building to building. One day, Hibiki almost drowns but is saved by a mysterious girl named Uta, who seems to have a special connection to the bubbles. As they get to know each other, they start to uncover the secrets of the bubbles and the strange things happening in Tokyo.
Animation and Art
The best part of Bubble is how it looks. The animation, done by WIT Studio (famous for Attack on Titan), is absolutely stunning. The colors are bright, and the way the characters move is smooth and exciting. The parkour scenes are especially thrilling, and the bubbles create a magical feeling. It’s one of the most visually impressive anime movies I’ve ever seen.
Music and Sound
The music, composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, fits the mood of the movie perfectly. It’s beautiful and adds to the magical, dreamy feeling of the story. The sounds of the bubbles popping and the water moving also make you feel like you’re right there in Tokyo.
Story and Characters
Sadly, this is where Bubble isn’t as good. The story feels rushed and doesn’t explain enough about the world or the bubbles. Hibiki and Uta’s relationship is supposed to be the main focus, but it feels a bit simple and doesn’t develop much. Even though there are some interesting ideas about loneliness and finding a place to belong, the movie doesn’t go deep enough into these themes.
Final Thoughts
Bubble is a gorgeous anime with fantastic animation and music, but the story is a bit weak. If you want to watch something that looks amazing, this movie is a great choice. But if you’re looking for a deep, emotional story, you might be a little disappointed.
Rating: 7/10

Bad Points:
- Weak story and characters
- Not very emotional
In short, Bubble is like a beautiful picture—wonderful to look at but not very deep when you try to understand it.
