Ashborn, also known as the Shadow Monarch, is the second strongest character after the Absolute Being in the Solo Leveling universe. The Absolute Being is considered the god of the Solo Leveling universe. (Spoiler Alert: The Absolute Being is killed by his creation Ruler’s, which makes Ashborn the strongest character in Solo Leveling.
Origin
In the beginning, the god of Solo Leveling, the Absolute Being, created two species: Rulers and Monarchs. Rulers were made using light, while Monarchs were made using darkness. Monarchs were created for destruction, while Rulers were created for protection. They are totally opposites, which led to an eternal battle between them. Ashborn is one of the Rulers.
Over time, the Rulers discovered that the Absolute Being was using them for his entertainment. That’s why they rebelled against their own god. However, Ashborn remained loyal to his creator. He disagreed with the decision of the other Rulers and chose to fight against them. Unfortunately, his power was not enough to defeat them all, and he was defeated, nearly to the point of death.
When Ashborn thought he was going to die because he was badly hurt, he prepared himself for the worst. But right before he thought it was all over, he found out he had a hidden power inside him given by the Absolute Being. He quickly used this power, turning into the strong and fully recovered. He went back to fight, but he was too late. The fighting was already finished, and the Absolute Being was dead.
After the Rulers caught Legia (one of the Monarchs), Ashborn saw that the Monarchs were going to lose if he didn’t help. So, he decided to help them, and they quickly agreed. However, Ashborn’s help made things complicated because he used to be a Ruler, and he was so strong that he scared everyone. That’s why two of the Monarchs, Rakan and Baran, decided they didn’t like him anymore. They attacked Ashborn, and he had to fight them and won, but it cost him a lot of his shadow soldiers.
Just after he defeated Baran, the Rulers came to apologize to Ashborn. But Ashborn was too angry to listen. He told them to just get rid of him so they could win. But the Rulers kept asking for forgiveness, and Ashborn got so mixed up that he didn’t know what to do. So, Ashborn left the battlefield and went into hiding to rebuild his shadow army. This gave the Rulers a chance to beat the Monarchs and make them hide. After a while, Ashborn went back to the Monarchs, and they were happy to have him because they were not as strong as before.
Years later, when the Monarchs decided to attack the world of humans, Ashborn joined them. He wanted to find where he fit in the universe because he never felt at home in their world of chaos. At the same time, he was looking for a human to take over, with help from someone named the Architect. It took a long time, but he finally found a guy named Sung Jinwoo.
