Even though the Demon King is dead in the main story, he remains the most powerful individual in the series. He was the Commander of the Demon King Army and the primary target of the Hero Party’s decade-long mission. For thousands of years, he orchestrated warfare against the human realms of the continent, ruling from his stronghold in Ende.
However, his true nature remains shrouded in mystery, with scant information available about him. Despite being creatures typically devoid of human emotion, the Demon King held sway over all demons, earning their unwavering allegiance.
History
One thousand years prior to Hero Himmel’s era, the Demon King commanded his forces to slaughter the elven Race, leaving Frieren as the lone survivor of her village. This tragedy led her to meet Flamme, who later trained her and tasked her with slaying the Demon King, a feat she accomplished centuries later.
Around twenty years before the Hero Party’s victory over the Demon King, the Demon King Army escalated its attacks, resulting in a surge of mages among humans. However, within about twenty-nine years after Himmel’s reign, mages became scarce, mainly seen in magical towns like Äußerst.
Despite the Demon King’s defeat, his top subordinates vanished, yet remnants of his army posed a significant threat to human kingdoms. Nearly a century post-defeat, these forces still waged wars against humans and controlled the northern region of the continent. Notable demons remaining included Elder Sage of Corruption Qual and members of the Seven Sages of Destruction, Aura, and Macht.
How Powerful Is He?
The Demon King’s abilities remain somewhat mysterious, but his position at the top of demon society suggests extraordinary strength and power. Eisen hinted at the challenges faced in the Demon King’s castle, indicating a formidable adversary.
Described as an eccentric demon by Solitär, the Demon King possessed both intelligence and extensive scientific knowledge, similar to Macht and Solitär. He showed a keen interest in understanding humans and fostering coexistence between demons and humans, conducting in-depth research on both species.
The Demon King demonstrated remarkable mana sensitivity and detection abilities, surpassing even his most powerful subordinates. Upon encountering Frieren, he instantly sensed her efforts to conceal her mana output. He could detect disruptions in the world’s space-time and correctly identified Frieren as a time traveler.
